Mary Kay Make-up Giveaway

I don't wear much make-up. The reason is that I honestly don't know how to use most of the make-up and face care products out there. I pretty much just wash my face with water. (Is that even allowed?) For serious. For about 15 years, I have used the same items--lipstick, eyeliner (years ago it was liquid, now it's gel), eyeliner pencil (gel), and mascara. I guess this is a good thing, as I'm a busy mom and those 4 things don't take very long to apply.

I recently got some new Mary Kay® make-up; I was happy to have my old favorites, but I also went out on a limb and got some things that I'm not used to. I needed to get a professional photograph taken for something, so I decided a few bits of new make-up were in order. Don't worry, the photograph is for something sewing-related. ;-)

Here's a new mascara, which is always fun. I definitely don't replace my mascara as often as I should. This is the Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara in black. I love this mascara. It seems to separate my lashes almost better than my old mascara.

And I got some new lip glosses! I'm usually not a fan of lip gloss because I feel like they get all smeary around my mouth, but these are really cool. I got the Mary Kay Nourishine Plus Lip Glosses in Mango Tango, Rock 'n' Red, and Café Au Lait. I thought it was funny because the Mango Tango pretty much matches my Tula Pink Salt Water. (Sorry, I know I'm a tease.) I couldn't believe how much I loved the Café Au Lait color, though. It's wonderful. It looks like my natural lip color but with a slight tinge of pink, plus of course the gloss. Pretty cool...The Café Au Lait is going into regular rotation.

You're going to laugh, but this is the first time in my life that I have ever owned a compact. My previous form of mirror was a tiny little cracked circle mirror that I bought on Etsy about 4 years ago. So I'm officially a big girl now! This is also the first time I have ever used blush (which came inside the compact). The blush color is called, appropriately, Shy Blush. I like it. It makes me look like I've just been outside in the cold air for a second. The Compact Mini also came with some removeable Mineral Eye Color, which is a little outside my comfort zone, but I'm anxious to try them because the colors are so cool! Especially the Sweet Plum, which is a dark purple.

So, here's a little before-and-after shot of me using the make-up. (I can't believe I'm showing you the 'before.') So, this is what I usually do. It's probably not the most flashy, but I like it and it's easy.

  1. I don't have many tips myself. Maybe use sunscreen? I should take my own advice!

  2. I just discovered the gel eyeliner and it is awesome!

  3. I don't use foundation. I love Mary Kay. They make a mineral powder that is fantastic. The powder is easy to apply and looks great. It evens out the skin tone and gives the skin a nice base to work off of. It stays on long too. BTW, your skin is beautiful. Thanks so much for the chance.

  4. I would love to try some Mary Kay out. As for a beauty tip, I really do not have one, I would love some tips on how to hide the scars and blemishes on my face and look natural at it. (one entry)

and I tweeted about the giveaway for my second entry https://twitter.com/staceycplace/status/280675312994492418

  5. I don't use a lot of makeup on a daily basis, and even when I go out and use make up it is still not alot..I don't use foundation or powder mainly it scares me.. and the few times I've tried it.. I think it makes me look older.. or just not right on me. but bronzer as a little high lighter the really light sheer kind does wonders and eyebrows.. my eye brows droop when they need to be trimmed.. a little clear mascara and spooly brush makes them look well groomed and pulls my entire face together

  6. I prefer Mary Kay to so many other brands out there. I dont really have any tips because I am not a makeup person. The make up i use most is mascara, eyeliner and eyeshadow and tinted lip balm because it is easy and makes a huge difference in how I look for the day.

  7. Would love to try some Mary Kay products. My best tip is to moisturize daily with a non greasy moisturizer with SPF.

  9. I don't use any make-up, mainly for the same reasons you stated above, just don't really know how to use it, however, my secret skin tip is to use a gentle cleanser (I use a no soap one) and I put on lotion with SPF every day. I may not put make up on but I believe you have to protect your skin no matter what.

  10. My best tip is to wash your face with honey. It won't remove makeup but it is antibacterial and doesn't dry out your skin. My email is kudra1978 at AOL for com.

  11. Don't cover your entire face with foundation. Instead just blend it over uneven areas like underneath eyes for a more natural look.

  12. My best beauty tip is to smile, smile, smile - everyone looks more beautiful when they smile...for real, that is!

    ReplyDelete
  13. A good night's sleep is my best beauty tip. Failing that, concealer!

  14. I don't wear a lot of makeup, but I always wear mascara. I have blonde eyelashes and you can't see them without it. But my tip is to always wear sunscreen. I am always in the sun and a quick application when you do your makeup is the perfect time.

  15. Is this a tip? I am also a freckle face, and have had a handful of well meaning tipsters give me advice on how to cover them up. Unfortunately, the tipsters wore soo much makeup on their face, they looked more like clowns to me (I would never tell them this, as I dont like to say hurtful things). So my tip is to use as little foundation as possible, and match the skin tone color of your neck, so you dont end up looking like you are wearing a mask...

tyvm for a chance to win! Love your blog!

  16. I find my skin is more clear (and less dry) when I drink more water. (sort of an unexpected bonus from breastfeeding, since that's making me drink more water)

    ReplyDelete
  17. I use baby oil for a makeup remover, I love Mary Kay and my makeup is coming to an end, time to stock up.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I only use eye make up and lipstick or gloss. My best and favorite beauty tip is keepin my skin clean and moisturized.

  19. You have beautiful skin & eyes & you have accented them perfectly. My best makeup tip is: Keep it simple & keep your face hydrated with a good moisturizer & get plenty of sleep. When my children were young this was tough but not so much now. What an awesome giveaway! I love Mary Kay Cosmetics.

  22. I am not young like you anymore but I have always washed my face with Caress bar soap and water. Plus now I only wear blush and some lip gloss. You look gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Always wear sunscreen SPF 30 or higher, even in the winter. Your skin will thank you for it as you age. Second is to never go to bed with your makeup on. I used MaryKay for years and then it became harder to get it. Would love to try that Masara!

  28. Whenever I did the Mary Kay party makeovers I ended up looking like a clown or... a lady of ill repute :) Stay hydrated from the inside and the outside! It is one beauty tip that will pay off in the long run. And, as already was mentioned~ keep smiling. Good for your physical beauty, your spirit, and the people around you. To quote Carole King~ "You've got to get up every morning with a smile on your face and all the love in your heart. Then people gonna treat you better. You're gonna find, yes you will, that you're beautiful as you feel!"

  34. ***1) For your liner- its TOO dark and "dead" on your lids. I recommend trying a mineral powder in black (I use Onyx from Bare Minerals) with a very narrow pointed eyeliner brush. You run water over the brush and then dip it in the loose powder (you could use eyeshadow for this also) and then tap on the sink and then start from the inner of your eyelid to the exterior and barely going past the end of your eye. It will leave a nice and even line and will look more natural and give your lashes a boost and look thicker. *** 2) I recently started penciling my eyebrows in because in high school- very thin eyebrows were in (this is years ago now) and my eyebrows do not grow in thick like they once were when I was a teen. I use a pencil for this. It does not look overly done and it looks more natural without having those patches in my eyebrows draws a lot of attention to my blue eyes now. ***3) Blush- always start from the upper cheekbone and swipe out in soft swipes- don't press the brush down on your cheeks or you will end up with splotches. ***4) Eyeshadow- I normally wear a shimmery neutral color to make my eyes pop. A light purple (not garish) would make your eyes pop :) Hope all those tips helped- I have tons more if you need them.

  35. My best beauty tip is to moisturize and read ingredients on stuff before you put it on your body. So many yucky, carcinogen ingredients in products these days. I like to check the rating on the Skin Deep Database before I buy stuff. I love Mary Kay, haven't had any for quite a while! Those lipglosses look lovely!

  36. My best tip is a good moisturizer. Makes skin nice and smooth!

  37. Use oldfashioned Vasaleine as a eye makeup remover. It is cheap and doesn't irritate your eyes.

  43. I lOVE Mary Kay. It was the first makeup that I actually used, learned how to use, and found some makeup that is mostly allergen-free! I have really sensitive skin, with lots of allergies, so it's a relief to find products I can use and feel good.
I love Mary Kay eyeliner. My favorite is the Amythest or dark purple. I use, alternately, the Cream-to powder foundation and the Mineral Powder foundation. They both do a great job of being easy to apply and quickly, covering up imperfections but look natural. I think I prefer the powder foundation, because it's so much easier to apply than most, and you can touch up with a new layer easily if you want throughout the day, without looking unnatural or caked on.
Maybe try Mary Kay's tinted moisturizer. It'll even-out skin tone, has sunscreen, and provides moisture. Just using moisturizer, I found, really makes a difference in my skin. I too, usually just use a bit of foundation, eyeliner, and lip gloss on a usual day, and mascara if I'm going out. I usually don't use eyeshadow and mascara unless I'm going to work.
Hey, congrats, and you're doing great! Your Mary Kay consultant should teach you how to apply your makeup.

  44. After I wash my face, I take my wet washcloth and rub it back and forth between my lips and then apply lip balm. That way no matter what lipstick I wear, my lips are nice and soft and smooth. It makes the lipstick look so much better and last longer too!

  45. Use moisturizer! Also, eyeliner can really make your eyes pop
