Sew Along! Sis Boom Rebecca Dress

Sew Sweetness
Need something pretty to wear over the holidays this year?? Come on, don't pull out that black outfit you usually wear! Make something new!

To get you going, announcing the Sis Boom Rebecca Shift Dress Sew Along! If you have never sewn a dress before, this is THE perfect dress pattern for a beginner! And if you *have* sewn clothing before, you will enjoy the contrasting neckline (or not contrasting, if you so choose), belt detail, and quick construction!

RebeccaShiftDress

I made my first Rebecca Dress last night (and halfway done with the 2nd), and couldn't have been happier with how it turned out. My dresses are all made using Andover Fabrics. Please follow them on Facebook to keep up with all of their new designs.

Dress made using 'Lucky Penny' by Alison Glass for Andover Fabrics

No special tools are required to make this. You can use your sewing machine's zig-zag stitch to finish the seams (although a serger works too), it takes a regular zipper (although I switched in an invisible zipper, which works fine too), and you can even use a regular presser foot if you don't have a zipper foot! The pattern is also written with some great tips on how to install a zipper with a glue stick, which makes it really easy especially if it's your first time.

Okay! So here are some of the details!

1. Sew along will run November 15 - December 20.

2. Add pictures of your fabric choices, post questions, and add your finished dress to my Flickr Group! We're here to help eachother finish them up!

3. Come back here on December 20th and link up your completed dress so we can gasp at the awesomeness of them all. No prizes - sorry! I just wanted this to be a low-stress and pleasurable event, and I know we are all busy getting ready for the holidays!

4. Myself and a team of 3 guest bloggers will be sharing our finished dresses along the way, with lots of tips on how to get it done, as well as our thoughts on working with the pattern.

BUT....
WHAT ABOUT A DISCOUNT ON THE PATTERN??

Jennifer Paganelli has graciously offered a discount on the Sis Boom Rebecca Shift Dress when you purchase it right here! This is an instant download, pdf sewing pattern. My favorite kind...I love cutting the paper pattern pieces out, and it's so easy to work with! There are so many illustrations for every step, you will know exactly what to do, I promise!!

You will receive $2 off the pattern (making it just $8), a right bargain! To receive the coupon code, just comment on this blog post and I will e-mail the code to you! Make sure to leave your e-mail address in the comment if you are a no-reply blogger (or if you're not sure). Coupon code is good now through end of day November 26th.

So I hope that you will sew along with me! I am really excited about the fit and finished dress. The first one came out so great, and I believe I'm going to make 2 short dresses to wear over leggings, and 1 additional dress I think I might try out the bodice with a gathered (wider) skirt. I am making all 3 dress with some new things from Andover Fabrics. I feel like the designs they have come out with recently are fresh and exciting, which is why I wanted to showcase them.

So excited about all the possibilities!!!

  5. That is so stinkin' cute! So cute how you styled it with leggings. I love how it flatters your tiny frame, and also the more voluptuous woman in J. Paganelli's photo. I've got to try it! way2govashti (at) yahoo (dot) com.

  7. Wow, so fun! I think I'm going to have to try this one out, if I can squeeze it in. I'd especially love suggestions on putting together the pattern pieces. I tried a downloadable pattern once and it ended up in a pile because I got overwhelmed with putting it together! And, I love that you're doing this low key and just for fun!

  9. Cute dress - I could do with a new outfit for the holidays and it would be nice to have something made in great fabric instead of vainly trying to find something I like in the shops. It have been years since I did any garment sewing but this seems like a god place to start again!
