Bloggers’ Dinner Party

I am participating in the Bloggers’ Dinner Party over at Needle and Spatula. What a great idea!! All you have to do is create something dinner-related, and link it up to win a great fabric bundle.

Bloggers' Dinner Party

My entry is this set of quilted placemats and pieced napkins. I made them using a free tutorial, and I just love them…the Metro Living circles fabrics from Robert Kaufman are just so versatile, and I combined that with several fruit-related fabrics from Anne Kelle and Alexander Henry. It is so lovely to be able to quilt a small project like this…what instant (quilting) gratification!

I’m looking forward to seeing the other projects in the Dinner Party, to see what else that I can make for the kitchen of my dreams! 🙂

I’d also like to share a recipe…this is my dad’s favorite dessert. It is soooooo good…I usually like to double it up to make sure there’s enough to go around!!

Blackberry-Lemon Pudding Cake
from Cooking Light

  • YIELD: 5 servings (serving size: 1 cup)
  • COURSE: Desserts
Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup low-fat buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon rind
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 3 large egg whites
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups blackberries
  • Cooking spray
  • 3/4 teaspoon powdered sugar

Preparation
  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Lightly spoon the flour into a dry measuring cup, and level with a knife. Combine the flour, 2/3 cup granulated sugar, salt, and nutmeg in a large bowl; add the buttermilk, lemon rind, lemon juice, butter, and egg yolks, stirring with a whisk until the mixture is smooth.
  • Beat egg whites with a mixer at high speed until foamy. Add 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating until stiff peaks form. Gently stir one-fourth of egg white mixture into the buttermilk mixture; gently fold in remaining egg white mixture. Fold in blackberries.
  • Pour the batter into an 8-inch square baking pan coated with cooking spray. Place in a larger baking pan; add hot water to larger pan to depth of 1 inch. Bake at 350° for 35 minutes or until the cake springs back when touched lightly in center. Sprinkle cake with powdered sugar. Serve warm.

  11. This looks amazing, I will try this for sure. Love that there is no butter in the ingredients as I don’t mind oil and can manage with margarine once in a while but hate butter!!! Can this be done with other flavors as well? Is the lemon juice for the acid or for liquid? wondering as an example if cherry would work? thanks for the recipe

  12. Delicious! However, the recipe he gave had slightly different amounts than the site… * 2 large lemons (1 rounded Tbs zest & 6 Tbs juice) * 1/4 cup all-purpose flour * Rounded 1/4 teaspoon salt * 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar * 3 large eggs, separated, left at room temperature for 30 minutes * 1 1/3 cups whole milk
