Nook Cover

My husband got a Nook Color a couple of weeks ago, and rooted it so he could have a handheld computer with apps. So I purchased some Chicago Bulls fabric since they are doing so incredible this year! He didn’t really want me to make a cover since he wanted a hard plastic one of some sort, but I did it anyway…and when I was finished, he actually said he would use it (and seemed genuinely impressed when he said it). Hooray!!

I used this iPad tutorial from One Shabby Chick and just adjusted it to the dimensions of the Nook (so when I cut the fabric, I made the front and back panels each 6″ x 10″).

Fabric – I used a fat quarter’s worth of fabric for the outside and the flap, and a white solid for the inside. I interfaced the outside and the flap with fusible fleece, and for the inside I used fusible fleece and fusible Peltex, so it is triple-padded. It also has a velcro closure.

Pattern Pieces – There are no pieces to cut out…I used 6″ x 10″ rectangles for each of the front/back and inner panels, and the flap is 5″ x 5″.

Illustrations/Instructions – There are plenty of pictures for each step in the pattern. This is very easy and straight-forward, and in the original pattern there are also directions for quilting your outer fabric. Very cool! I didn’t quilt mine because I didn’t think my husband would care if it was quilted or not.

The only thing I changed is that I didn’t topstitch the top edge after I finished…I just hate wrangling Peltex through my sewing machine. With a good ironing job, it’s honestly fine without the topstitching since it’s so thick and padded.

Conclusion – Super simple pattern. Great for a beginner. This project took me exactly one hour, from the cutting to the completion.

Hi. I’m making a Nook Color cover for my daughter-in-law so if I use your adjusted Ipad cover I’d cut the front and back at 6″x10″ and flap 5″x5″.I just wanted to make sure. The lining , peltex, etc is all cut based on 6″ x 10″ , right? Thanks

Re- read the directions. Based on the front and back being cut @ 6″x10″- do I cut the lining 5.5″ x 9.5″? Sorry for the questions but wanted to make sure I have it right before I start. Thanks so much.
